Willems And Muto To Start: Predicted 5-3-2 Newcastle United Lineup vs Leicester City

A buoyant Newcastle United side will face Leicester City on Wednesday night in the League Cup, which could see manager Steve Bruce play a strong side, after revealing that he is going to take the competition seriously.

The players received a much-needed shot in the arm after they beat Tottenham Hotspur in their last Premier League game, and subsequently picked up their first win of the season.

Newcastle United Team News

The Magpies will be without a few key players as new signings Joelinton and Allan Saint-Maximin could miss the game through injury, while Captain Jamaal Lascelles is a doubt as well.

Let’s take a look at the possible lineup that Bruce might put out against Leicester City on Wednesday:

Predicted Newcastle United Lineup vs Leicester City

Goalkeeper

Newcastle United No. 1 Martin Dubravka may get a break, having played all three Premier League games of the season, and 28-year-old Karl Darlow could make his first start of the season against Leicester City.

Defence

Captain and central defender Jamaal Lascelles is most likely going to miss the game against Leicester City, and he could be replaced by Federico Fernandez in the starting XI. He will most likely be joined by Fabian Schär and Paul Dummett to form the back three against Leicester City.

Schär and Dummett performed really well against Spurs last weekend, and the Newcastle fans will be hoping they can replicate that performance against Leicester City.

Summer signing Jetro Willems could get his first start and he could start at left wing-back, replacing Matt Ritchie, while Emil Krafth could continue at right wing-back for the Magpies.

Midfield

Jonjo Shelvey was on the bench for Newcastle United last time around against Spurs, but could return to the side and play alongside Isaac Hayden, while Sean Longstaff could make way for Ki Sung-yueng.

Longstaff’s brother, Matthew Longstaff, could also be a part of the Newcastle squad for the game against the Foxes.

Attack

The Magpies’ record signing, Joelinton, will miss the game against Leicester, which could mean that Japanese international Yoshinori Muto could replace him.

Miguel Almirón will be Newcastle’s chief creator in attacking areas, and will be key to the Magpies’ attack against Leicester, especially on the break.
