Bournemouth will host Premier League’s newcomers Sheffield United at the Vitality Stadium on Saturday in their opening fixture of 2019-20 campaign.
Having finished 14th in the top-flight’s standings last season, the Cherries will hope for a higher finish this time around, and need a positive start to kick off the season.
Eddie Howe has brought some quality players this summer, and considering Bournemouth play good, attractive football, the transition time shouldn’t take long.
Sheffield United themselves played some good football last season, and Howe’s side cannot afford to take them lightly.
Bournemouth team news
Steve Cook and Charlie Daniels are ready to feature against the Blades. The two defenders are crucial for Howe’s side and their return is a massive boost for the club.
Lloyd Kelly injured himself while training and is expected to be out for a few weeks. David Brooks is also out of contention to feature following his ankle surgery.
While Dan Gosling and Junior Stanislas are still on the treatment table, Lewis Cook and Simon Francis are both long-term absentees with knee injuries. Harry Wilson has joined the side amidst a lot of hype, but considering he hasn’t had too many session with his new teammates, he might not start.
Predicted Bournemouth lineup vs. Sheffield United (4-2-3-1)
Defence
It was a strange pre-season for the duo of Asmir Begovic and Artur Boruc as Mark Travers and Aaron Ramsdale saw a lot more playing time. Travers could be given the nod based on pre-season.
Chris Mepham and Nathan Ake are expected to start in the central defence. The duo work well together. Cook has been passed fit, but they might not be risked.
The right-back spot is likely to be occupied by Adam Smith, while Diego Rico could start at left-back.
Midfield
It will be interesting to see how Philip Billing and Jefferson Lerma fare in the central midfield. Their primary task will be to intercept passes or stop Sheffield United from playing and make the quick breaks. They are also good at keeping possession.
Lerma was a key player for the Cherries last season, while Billing just edges Surmanand might get the nod to start.
Meanwhile, Ryan Fraser and Arnaut Danjuma might start on the wings. Wilson is likely to be an option from the bench
Attack
Callum Wilson, who managed 14 goals and 9 assists in 30 league appearances last season, is expected to start up top alongside Joshua King.
