Newcastle United defied all odds and secured a spot in the prestigious Champions League at the end of what was a fantastic 2022/23 campaign.
Let’s first rewind 18 months and remember where Newcastle United were when Eddie Howe took charge as manager. The Toon Army were languishing in the relegation zone, struggling to buy a win and lacking any sort of direction. One-and-a-half-year on, Eddie Howe has secured a fourth-place Premier League finish and guided the club to the Carabao Cup final in February, where the Magpies lost 2-0 to Manchester United.
While Newcastle boasts the financial power of the wealthiest owners in world football, their success has not been the result of haphazard spending in the transfer market. Instead, it is proof of the painstaking planning, excellent scouting, strategic decision-making and complete belief in the backroom staff.

#Bruno Guimaraes
Bruno Guimaraes was an ever-present in the Newcastle midfield since the start of the season, using his passing skills and defensive attributes to dictate the tempo of games.
The Brazilian was the heartbeat of the Newcastle side. His ability to drive with the ball from deeper areas in midfield to the final third of the pitch was superb. The 25-year-old chipped in with four goals and five assists across 32 Premier League games.
Hence, Bruno deserves every form of praise that he’s received throughout the past campaign.
#Callum Wilson
Callum Wilson was truly fantastic for Newcastle, and while he has always been a reliable figure in front of the goal, the 2022-23 season saw him take his finishing prowess to another level.
The England international, 31, spearheaded the Newcastle attack for the majority of the season as part of a fiery trio with Miguel Almiron and Alexander Isak. He was the club’s top scorer in the Premier League with 18 strikes in 31 appearances. On top of it, the striker also supplied five assists.
Undoubtedly, Wilson had a terrific season, and he once again showed why Howe rates him so highly and has so much faith in his qualities.
#Kieran Trippier
The Newcastle defence was rock solid throughout the season, and Kieran Trippier was one of the cornerstones of their success.
Trippier, 32, was a regular for Eddie Howe’s side, helping them secure Champions League qualification. He led the team by example and featured in all 38 Premier League games, registering a goal and seven assists in the process. From a full-back’s point of view, those numbers are really good.
Clearly, the England international is one of the players that improved the Magpies both defensively and offensively. A seasoned campaigner, Trippier has been at the heart of everything good that has happened with Newcastle.
