Jordan Hugill has emerged as a target for West Bromwich Albion in the on-going transfer window, it has been reported.
The Baggies are in the market to strengthen their attacking department this summer, and are apparently circling around Hugill who is likely to leave West Ham for regular playing time, it has been claimed by the Daily Star.
West Brom will have to compete with Championship rivals Leeds United and Wigan Athletic, who are also monitoring him from close quarters.
Hugill is currently on weekly wages of £40,000-a-week, and considering the Hammers have signed Sebastien Haller, and have Javier Hernandez in the squad, the former Preston man is unlikely to get much playing time.
West Brom will be without Dwight Gayle next season, so they will need to replace the goals he managed last season.
With promotion being the main objective next season, the Baggies will need proven players, and Hugill has shown in the past that he is a good player to have in the Championship.
The curious case of Jordan Hugill
Hugill was a prominent figure at Preston North End during his tenure, as he established himself as a good goal scorer in the Championship.
However, his career has had a downward spiral following his £10million move to West Ham United in the January transfer window of 2018.
He has made just 6 appearances for the London based outfit so far, and was sent out on loan to Middlesbrough last summer.
Will it be a good move for all the parties?
Salomon Rondon has moved to Dalian Yifang, which means that Albion’s new signing Kenneth Zohore is the only recognised striker Bilic has to choose from.
The Croatian is looking to add competition for Zohore, and Hugill wouldn’t be a bad option at all.
Hugill might have faltered in the Premier League, but he is a player of proven pedigree in the Championship, and has good experience under his belt, which could help Albion.
A player who is strong in the air, Hugill can link up play well in the attacking third with his layoffs and flicks, so he would be a good option to have on the counter-attack.
As far as Hugill is concerned, he could feature regularly with slightly lowered expectations at West Brom, so the move could be beneficial for the player as well.
No it won’t be good for all parties. Move on Baggies we don’t need this cheat.
