Aston Villa keen on signing West Ham United forward: He is exactly what they need

As per reports by Birmingham Live, Aston Villa are interested in signing Jordan Hugill, on loan, from West Ham United.

Steve Bruce is believed to have approached the Hammers to prise Hugill out of the London Stadium. However, it won’t be easy signing the player as Leeds United and Queens Park Rangers are also interested.

Bruce often got the best out of his players last season and took Villa to the final of the Championship play-offs. However, the Lions failed to overcome Fulham and need to strengthen again for what could be a pretty competitive Championship season starting from this weekend.

Villa’s lack of firepower

There is no denying that the Villans are in desperate need reinforcements this summer. They need a few fresh faces in the attacking department.

Scott Hogan, Keinan Davies and Rushian Hepburn-Murphy are currently sidelined due to injury, which leaves Bruce with Jonathan Kodjia as his only fit centre-forward. Thus, the apparent interest in Hugill makes a lot of sense.

Jordan Hugill – Fact file and what he’ll add to Aston Villa

Hugill joined the Irons in January for £10million after he impressed for Preston North End in the Championship.

He has a proven track record in the Championship, having scored 13 times during the 2016-17 season and 10 times in the first half of the previous campaign before his switch to the West Ham. He record quickly got him a lot of admirers as being a clinical forward.

His career, however, has been stagnant at West Ham. He managed to muster just 3 substitute appearances in the league last term and due to the wholesale additions Manuel Pellegrini has already made this summer following his appointment, Hugill is likely to fall further below the pecking order.

Why it’s a good move for all the parties

The 26-year-old is a formidable target-man and knows exactly where the goal is. He would be a shrewd signing for Villa and the player’s chances of playing regularly are also expected to increase if his move to West Midlands materialises.

Besides, West Ham would also be able to track his progress and decide whether to keep him or sell him in the near future. Thus, his move to the Villa Park should benefit all the parties involved.
