Greenwood and Martial on the Wings: Predicted Manchester United Lineup vs Spurs

Manchester United will play the final match of their Australian and Asian pre-season tour when they take on Tottenham on Thursday, before travelling back to Europe to face Kristiansund and AC Milan.

The Red Devils have won all three of their pre-season games, and will hope to continue that winning run against Spurs.

Manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has given opportunities to almost every player in the Manchester United squad in pre-season, with everyone getting a clean slate ahead of the tour to prove their worth to the manager.

Let’s take a look at the team that Solskjaer could put out against Tottenham on Thursday:

Goalkeeper

David de Gea could continue in goal after starting the game against Inter Milan, which was also his first pre-season game.

Defence

We are still uncertain on the two central defenders that could start for Manchester United in the first game against Chelsea on August 11, but one of the central defenders will most likely be Victor Lindelof. The Swede is by far the best defender that Solskjaer has in his squad.

Youngster Axel Tuanzebe started for United against Inter and had a good game, but we could maybe see him replaced by Eric Bailly as the United manager has tried multiple combinations in pre-season.

New signing Aaron Wan-Bissaka will start at right-back, while Luke Shaw will continue at left-back.

Midfield

Paul Pogba has been a constant fixture in midfield in pre-season, playing in a deeper role for Solskjaer and he will start against Spurs, and will likely be joined by Scott McTominay.

Jesse Lingard or Juan Mata could play in the advanced midfield role. Lingard started the last game in Inter, and going by Solskjaer’s rotation, I sense that Mata could get an opportunity come Thursday.

Attack

Romelu Lukaku has once again been ruled out due to injury as reports over his transfer to Inter Milan continue.

New signing Daniel James has started all three pre-season games, but we could maybe see him get a rest against Tottenham. Marcus Rashford, who has been in good form in pre-season, could lead the line, with Anthony Martial on the left, and 17-year-old forward Mason Greenwood starting on the right.
