Manchester United have been linked with quite a few star players ahead of the 2019-20 season, but have made two signings, both young players in Aaron Wan-Bissaka and Daniel James. The Red Devils have been linked with moves for Sporting Lisbon’s Bruno Fernandes as well as Leicester City’s Harry Maguire.
And now the English side have been linked with a move for Argentine ace Paulo Dybala, who may have dropped down the pecking order at Juventus who have a very strong squad ahead of the 2019-20 season. La Gazzetta dello Sport are reporting that the 25-year-old is available for the right price and that Manchester United have expressed their interest in signing him as the report has stated that the English club will have discussions with the Italian side soon.
The attacker had a very average season for Juventus last time around, scoring 10 goals and assisting 5 times in 42 games for the Italian giants. He hasn’t quite stepped up in the crucial moments and hasn’t lived up to the expectations that many had of him over the last few years. Dybala has three more years on his current contract with Juventus having signed an extension to his contract in 2017.
Just the player Ole needs?
Ole Gunnar Solskjaer needs reinforcements in several areas with the central midfield and central defence the priorities ahead of the 2019-20 season. But, the Red Devils also need a few attacking players as they currently have players who have either not been consistent or downright poor.
Dybala can play in the wide right attacking role which is an area that Manchester United need to strengthen as they currently have Jesse Lingard and Juan Mata as the two options in that position, while the likes of Alexis Sanchez and Daniel James can play in that position, but will mostly not for different reasons.
If pre-season is any indication, Solskajer may play with a No. 10 instead of a three-man midfield, which means that Juan Mata could be utilised there – which is the position he is most suited to, rather than a wide right role. Sanchez has been poor for United and may not even have a future at the club, while it would be too early to expect a lot from young Daniel James on a regular basis.
Dybala has the technique and talent to become one of the best players in the Premier League if he does move to England. A fantastic crosser and shooter, Dybala can chip in with several assists and goals each season and could be a huge threat from the right, or from a second striker role. Manchester United should move for him as he is still a young player at 25 years of age, while he has the potential to make a big impact at the club as well.
