3 players Real Madrid need to loan out this summer – Opinion

After a nightmare 2018/19 campaign, Real Madrid have begun preparations for next season on a high, and have already signed up some of the best players in Europe.

Los Blancos have spent more than €300 million on five players in Eden Hazard, Eder Militao, Luka Jovic, Ferland Mendy and Rodrygo Goes as the capital club prepares for Zinedine Zidane’s second spell as manager.

However, with a stacked up squad comes numerous problems and Zidane must be wary of the situation.

Too much quality isn’t always better as one too many players in the dressing room lack playing time and ache for a move elsewhere, not to mention the economic hit they give to the club in case a transfer doesn’t materialise.

Let’s look at the three players who must be sent out on loan to balance the books and reduce the traffic in some departments at Santiago Bernabeu.

Mariano Diaz

Diaz arrived in the Spanish capital last summer after Madrid bought back their youth product from Ligue 1 club Lyon in a deal worth €21.5 million.

He was given the number 7 shirt earlier worn by the Portuguese star Cristiano Ronaldo, but his output on the pitch was nowhere near the current Juventus forward.

The Dominican Republic International managed a mere 4 goals in 22 appearances across all competitions and failed to impress either of the three managers in charge of Los Blancos last term.

With the signing of Jovic, and Karim Benzema already present at the club, it’s highly unlikely that the 25-year-old will get many chances under Zidane.

Jesus Vallejo

Los Blancos signed Vallejo from Real Zaragoza back in 2015 for a mere €5 million, and after back-to-back loans in Spain and Germany, he returned to Bernabeu in the summer of 2017.

The 22-year-old has developed an injury-prone status after he missed most of the games with several muscular problems and constant issues with his hamstring.

In his two-year stay at the club, he has made a total of 19 appearances so far and with new signings in Militao, his chances of regular first-team action with the capital club seem bleak.

Borja Mayoral

The 22-year-old who has a contract until 2021 rose through the Madrid ranks and was promoted to the senior side back in the summer of 2016.

In the same summer, he was sent out on a year loan to Bundesliga side VfL Wolfsburg which was soon followed by another year loan move to Levante with one season at Santiago Bernabeu sandwiched between the two loan deals.

The Spaniard has shown little promise and is likely to be shipped off permanently or on another loan deal with so much firepower already present in the Madrid final third.
