Middlesbrough preparing a move for 24-goal striker: Just what they need for a promotion push

Middlesbrough are already readying themselves for the upcoming season and are apparently keen to bolster their attacking sector as they are eyeing a move for Newcastle United striker Dwight Gayle.

It has been claimed by the Daily Star that the Smoggies have already placed Gayle on their radar following his impressive last season on loan at West Bromwich Albion.

Newcastle United are not expected to keep him in their ranks and considering that the Baggies do not have the financial muscle to attain his signature owing to their failure to get promoted despite reaching the playoffs, Middlesbrough could well get their wanted man.

Dwight Gayle: Profile

Gayle has a huge amount of experience under his belt and he is a veteran player in English football. He spent his youth career at Arsenal and even though he couldn’t get into their senior side, Dwight has managed to carve a successful career for himself till this point.

After spells with Stansted and Dagenham & Redbridge, the attacker mustered spells with Peterborough United and Crystal Palace and his various spells have helped him acquire vital experience in English football.

In the summer of 2016, he moved to St. James’ Park but he failed to completely settle in his new surroundings and a lot was lacking in his displays in the black and white stripes.

Having moved to West Brom, he was in red-hot form for the Throstles the last term as he managed to plunder 24 goals and he also registered a couple of assists in 40 appearances in the Championship. Despite his productivity while on loan, his future at Newcastle United looks bleak.

Why he would be a good signing for Middlesbrough?

Boro missed out on a place in the playoffs by just one point and a few additions to their ranks could see them turn into genuine contenders for promotion next season. Given the circumstances, Gayle could be a perfect acquisition for them.

The 29-year-old is extremely well versed with Championship football and wouldn’t find it hard to find his footing at Middlesbrough if he eventually moves to the Riverside Stadium.

He is a poacher inside the box, can hold the ball well up top and knows exactly where the goal is. Besides, he can operate on either wing and makes shrewd movements in the final third to make the most of the opportunities that come his way.

The Riversiders are expected to be ambitious in their endeavours in the coming months and someone like Gayle, who can guarantee around 20 goals if he stays fit, could be a galvanizing signing.
