Manchester United are interested in AS Monaco midfielder Youri Tielemans, who enjoyed an excellent loan spell at Leicester City last season.
According to a report from the Independent, Tielemans has emerged as a possible option for the Red Devils in case Paul Pogba decides to leave Old Trafford.
The Frenchman has been linked with a move to his former club Juventus, and Real Madrid are also said to be interested.
Tielemans managed 3 goals and 5 assists in his 13 appearances on loan in the Premier League, and is set to leave Monaco after growing interest from big clubs all around Europe, one of them being Leicester City themselves.
Youri Tielemans under Ole Gunnar Solskjaer: An exciting move
The Belgian International is a versatile playmaker who predominantly features in a centre-midfield role.
The 22-year-old could prove to be a good addition to the Red Devils’ midfield given his flexibility and United’s boss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer inclination of changing formations on a regular basis depending on the opposition and personnel available to him.
Tielemans is a technically astute midfielder who is blessed with a wide range of skill-set – from his passing to long shots, to his composure on the ball.
The Monaco midfielder managed an average of 83.1 pass success percentage, and 1.9 shots per game which speaks volumes about his confidence in the final third as well.
The Belgian’s anticipation, vision, concentration and spatial awareness on the pitch is exactly what the Manchester United midfield is missing. Solskjaer’s side looked lost on most occasions towards the end of the season, as the midfield simply didn’t have the creativity and tenacity to make anything happen.
All the attention has been on Paul Pogba and what he can offer the team and the players the club need to sign to bring the best out of him. Perhaps it’s time Solskjaer considers how he can reshape the midfield without Pogba, and signing Tielemans would signal the same as he has the goods to be a top player.
Manchester United’s target list isn’t the biggest as they missed out on Champions League football, but Tielemans is one player they can attract, so they should break the bank for him
