After securing manager Marcelo Bielsa’s future for another year, Leeds United are now on the lookout for new arrivals to help them challenge for a spot in the Premier League next season.
The Whites have now set their sights on Liverpool winger Ryan Kent, whom they want to bring to Elland Road on loan, according to Football Insider.
Leeds will have to stave off interest from numerous clubs to sign Kent, including that of Rangers, who are keen to bring him back to Scotland for another year on loan.
Kent was on loan at Scottish club Rangers last season, who are currently managed by Liverpool legend Steven Gerrard.
Ryan Kent – Profile
The English winger had a good season at the club, scoring 6 goals and 9 assists in his 43 appearances for the club in all competitions.
The young winger won the Scotland Young Player of the Year for the 2018-19 season after his good performances for Rangers.
Kent’s contract at Liverpool ends in 2022 and the Englishman has previous Championship experience having played for Bristol City and Barnsley, while he also had a spell at German club Freiburg.
The left-sided midfielder can also play as a second striker as well as a right winger when needed.
Is Kent the impetus Bielsa and Leeds need?
In the 2018-19 season, Manchester City’s Jack Harrison played on the left-hand side for Leeds United, when he was on loan at the club. But with Harrison returning to the Etihad, Bielsa needs reinforcements on the left side, which is why they are pursuing Ryan Kent.
Kent is a right-footed player who likes to drift inwards to the middle with his quick pace as well as his nimble dribbling, thanks to his small frame.
The 22-year-old is agile and can drift past the opposition defence, while also possessing good technique. He is a player that will fit well in Bielsa’s style of play with his quick dribbling and short passing.
The winger could be an able replacement to Harrison, and after an impressive year at Rangers, could take his game to the next level under the experienced and smart hands of Bielsa at Leeds United.
