Leicester City join the race for Ligue 1 wing-wizard: Good fit under Rodgers?

Leicester City seem to be quite ambitious going by the players they have been linked with as well as the appointment of former Liverpool manager Brendan Rodgers.

The Foxes are now reportedly vying for the signature of highly-rated forward Bertrand Traoré from Lyon.

Leicester aren’t the only team keen on adding him to their team, as the likes of Liverpool, Everton, and Arsenal are also interested in his signature, as per French outlet Foot Mercato.

Bertrand Traore – Factfile

Traore moved to Lyon from Chelsea having signed for the London club back in 2010.

He made 16 appearances in the 2015-16 season for the Blues, scoring 4 goals, but established himself in Europe in the very next season at Ajax, before making the switch over to France and Lyon, where he has impressed. Lyon bought the 23-year-old for €10 million from Chelsea in 2017.

The right-sided attacker scored 11 times and assisted thrice in the 2018-19 season, helping his team finish 3rd in Ligue 1.

Traore was part of an exciting attack at Lyon which featured Moussa Dembélé, Memphis Depay, Nabil Fekir, Martin Terrier, and Maxwel Cornet, who scored 78 goals between themselves in all competitions in the 2018-19 season.

At just 23 years of age, Traore has already played 186 games in all competitions while also featuring 51 times for national team Burkina Faso, since making his international debut at just 15 years of age.

Will Traore be a good fit at Leicester City?

A modern, inverted winger, Traore’s best trait is his quick feet and his ability to make defenders commit to a challenge while he slaloms past them.

The 23-year old has the pace to get to the ball and drive forward, cutting inside to central areas with his stronger left foot, but it’s his close control, touch and dribbling that helps him get out of tricky situations or go around defenders inside the box.

Traore is an accurate shooter from in and outside the box, while his smart vision helps in picking out passes either to the overlapping full-back or the centre-forward. He is a composed figure with the ball at his feet with not too many things daunting him.

With top clubs like Arsenal, Liverpool and Everton also interested in him, Traore signing for Leicester will be a big win for Brendan Rodgers’ ambitions at the club. He can be the star man at the club who have, over the years, played quick and direct attacking football, which could suit Traore very well.

Traore would be a fantastic signing for Leicester, if he does sign for them as he will be a big upgrade on the right-sided attackers that Rodgers has currently with Marc Albrighton and Rachid Ghezzal not being consistent on the right.
