Manchester United are contemplating a move for Tottenham Hotspur full-back Kieran Trippier, it has been claimed.
The Red Devils have faded away under Ole Gunnar Solskjaer after a bright start to the year, and if the manager’s post-match press conference following the defeat to Everton in anything to go by, expect changes in the summer.
The right-back is one position that has troubled Manchester United in recent years, and the fact that Ashley Young is still being used in that role says a lot about the squad.
Trippier, even though he has had a drop in form, would be a stable addition to Manchester United owing to his experience in the Premier League.
The Sun, however, claim that Tottenham are looking for at least £40 million for the 28-year old.
Kieran Trippier for £40 million – A wise addition?
At 28, Tripper is at the peak of his prowess, and consistently made Mauricio Pochettino’s matchday squad.
An extremely versatile player, Trippier can be deployed on the right side of midfield as well because of how comfortable he is on the ball. It’s no coincidence that he is one of the first names on the team sheet under Pochettino as the England international offers a lot to the team.
The 28-year old’s work ethic is impressive, a pre-requisite for Pochettino’s style, and he offers a threat on the right with his good crossing ability.
Tripper isn’t the quickest full-back in the league, but there aren’t too many wingers that can beat him for pace because of his good starting position and recovery speed.
The former Burnley man is also good in set-piece situations as not only can he put a mean delivery in, but is also no slouch when it comes to winning aerial duels.
The only issue is the transfer fee. However, considering Aaron Wan-Bissaka, another Manchester United target, won’t come for cheap either, perhaps Manchester United are better off spending money on someone who has done it consistently at the top level of football for several years now.
