Liverpool will once again have the chance to play ahead of Manchester City and put the pressure back on the league leaders when they take on Southampton away from home on Friday.
Manchester City eased to a 2-0 win against Cardiff City on Wednesday, but have a relatively tougher run of fixtures coming up.
Liverpool had to dig deep against Tottenham, and the clash against Southampton will not be easy either as the Saints are fighting for their lives.
Liverpool Team News
Virgil van Dijk was seen hobbling for a few minutes in Liverpool’s win against Tottenham, but the Dutchman is fit and should play against his former side on Friday.
Naby Keita and Xherdan Shaqiri are back in contention to feature as well, and the former will push for a start.
Predicted Liverpool Lineup
Defence
Alisson did not have the most composed of games against Tottenham, and will hope to be more assertive against Southampton.
Van Dijk and Joel Matip didn’t have much to do in the first half against Spurs, but were tested in the second period and the former was instrumental in keeping the scores level as he shepherded Moussa Sissoko really well in two-vs-one situation.
Andy Robertson and Trent Alexander-Arnold were brilliant once against Spurs, and should keep their place against Southampton.
Midfield
Fabinho is expected to star after coming off the bench in the last game. The Brazilian is likely to replace Jordan Henderson in the team. James Milner and Adam Lallana might complete the midfield three.
Considering Keita hasn’t started a game since the draw against Bayern Munich at Anfield in mid-February, we don’t expect Klopp to start with the former Leipzig man, a player Southampton manager Ralph Hasenhuttl knows pretty well.
Lallana played against Fulham, and might get the nod to start against his former club.
Attack
Sadio Mane and Mohamed Salah are likely to feature in their normal positions out wide in the front three, with Roberto Firmino playing in the number nine role.
Both Mane and Salah had chances against Spurs, but could not take them, so they will be hoping to get on the scoresheet come Friday.
