Shaw keeps Salah in his pocket: Manchester United player ratings vs Liverpool

Manchester United remained unbeaten in the Premier League under interim coach Ole Gunnar Solskjaer after holding Liverpool to a 0-0 draw at Old Trafford earlier on Sunday.

It was an injury infested game for the Red Devils, who were forced to use all of their substitutions inside the first half, but a committed second-half display helped them collect a point against the league leaders.

Here are the Manchester United players rated from their draw against Liverpool.

David de Gea (6.5/10): Had very little to do as Liverpool struggled to make any inroads and test the Spaniard.

Ashley Young (6.5/10): The game started off badly for the veteran defender, whose awful back pass to De Gea gave Liverpool the chance to score the opener. He did, however, do well in the remainder of the game as was secure with his passing, and always kept his guard up.

Chris Smalling (7.5/10): Smalling once again vindicated the coach’s decision to start him ahead of Eric Bailly in defence. Indeed, the England international’s aggression and aerial prowess was key as United managed to keep only their second clean sheet at Old Trafford this season.

Victor Lindelof (7/10): Another decent defensive display from the Swedish international, whose excellent positioning gave him the upper hand against the Liverpool attackers. Finished the game with three tackles.

Luke Shaw (8/10): Kept check of Milner for the most part of the game and defended rather well against Mohamed Salah. Also looked much more mature in terms of his overall passing and positioning.

Scott McTominay (7/10): Did well after making the team in place of Matic, and played a role in the midfield keeping its shape and shutting out the Liverpool attack. Did great in the air, and won three aerial duels.

Ander Herrera (6): Herrera’s aggression during the first quarter of the game stood out, but the Spaniard picked up an injury and made way for Andreas Pereira.

Paul Pogba (7/10): Struggled to make an impact from an attacking perspective but the Frenchman played a key role off the ball. He worked very hard when his side were without the ball, notably making a couple of crucial interceptions.

Juan Mata (5/10): Nothing too spectacular from the Spaniard, who made way for Jesse Lingard just 25 minutes into the game.

Marcus Rashford (6.5/10): Looked rather uncomfortable after suffering an early injury but did well to remain on the pitch and try to create a scoring opportunity.

Romelu Lukaku (7.5/10): Arguably the brightest spark in the Manchester United attack this afternoon, Lukaku made smart movements, and his passing way also quite impressive. The Belgian also provided a couple of brilliant balls into the 18-yard box, one of which found Lingard, in what was by far the best chance of the game.

Substitutes

Andreas Pereira (6.5/10): Worked very hard after coming in for the injured Herrera in the 21st minute. Although the Portuguese failed to create any scoring opportunities for United, his aggression and fighting spirit were truly inspiring.

Jesse Lingard (NA): A failed substitution from Solskjaer as the England international limped off just 17 minutes after replacing Mata in the 25th minute. Failed to put away the best chance of the game.

Alexis Sanchez (5/10): The Chilean showed excellent commitment, but lacked creativity.
