Fred Gets 5, Rashford 8: Manchester United Players Rated In 2-1 Win vs Bournemouth

Manchester United once again managed to make a sensational comeback as an injury-time goal from Marcus Rashford sealed all three points against Bournemouth this afternoon. The Red Devils went behind early, courtesy, Callum Wilson, who scored his sixth goal of the season.

Anthony Martial, however, managed to level the scoreline in the 35th minute despite a shambolic first-half display from Jose Mourinho’s men. United improved after the restart and scored the winner in the dying embers of the game with Rashford scoring from close range.

Here are the Manchester United players rated in their last-gasp win over Bournemouth.

David de Gea (7.5/10): Conceded early but grew into the game and ended up making six saves. However, he did appear tentative at times in dealing with aerial balls but a better performance from the Spaniard nonetheless.

Ashley Young (6/10): Looked clueless, at times, in dealing with the Bournemouth attackers on the flank. His defensive positioning was awful as well, often struggling to make himself comfortable at the back. However, he had a key role to play in United’s equaliser while he also hit the post with a free-kick.

Chris Smalling (5/10): Following a series of impressive performances, Smalling was completely exposed this afternoon as United lacked defensive organization at the back. He found difficulty in dealing with the threat of Callum Wilson in the first half.

Victor Lindelof (6/10): A marginally better performance than his defensive partner Smalling as he was much more composed on the ball. He attained a pass accuracy of 86%, most by any United defender but that being said, he failed to provide any sort of solidity at the back, especially in the first half.

Luke Shaw (6.5/10): Another ineffective display from the former Southampton prodigy, who was all over the place during the first half-hour of the game. While he did improve as time wore on, Shaw had a very little impact on proceedings nonetheless. Missed a one-on-one.

Fred (5/10): A disastrous display from the Brazilian midfielder, who was not only careless but also completely overwhelmed by Bournemouth’s intense press in midfield. He did win five tackles and two interceptions but that certainly doesn’t justify his woeful display at the centre of the pitch.

Nemanja Matic (5/10): Failed to provide any kind of solidity in midfield and also appeared very casual in possession. Jose Mourinho will certainly hope to have Scott McTominay back for the next game with Matic terribly out of form.

Paul Pogba (6.5/10): Was the brightest spark in the United midfield, especially in the second half where he created a couple of chances and looked energetic overall. That being said, Pogba certainly needs to be more consistent in regards to his performance, following a hapless display in the first half.

Juan Mata (6/10): He was technically United’s best player this afternoon with a pass accuracy of 92%. But, he lacked composure in the final third and provided little spark. Was subbed off around the hour-mark.

Alexis Sanchez (6.5/10): It was an ambitious move by Mourinho to deploy Sanchez as the leading striker. But the move certainly didn’t pay off as the Chilean was often isolated in the final third whilst struggling to breach a disciplined Bournemouth defence. He provided the assist for Martial’s equalizer before making way for Jesse Lingard late in the game.

Anthony Martial (7/10): Despite an average performance overall, Martial kept his impressive scoring run intact by scoring the equalizer in the 35th minute. The Frenchman now has five goals in his last four matches and will serve as a lifeline for United when they meet Juventus next week.

Substitutes

Marcus Rashford (7.5/10): Missed the biggest chance of the game when he failed to convert from five yards. However, he managed to make amends late in the game by scoring from close range. His pace and dynamism certainly boosted United’s attacking threat in the second half.

Ander Herrera (7.5/10): It was a smart move by Mourinho to introduce Herrera around the hour mark as the Spaniard added more composure in midfield and was not afraid to bomb forward.

Jesse Lingard (NA): Had very little time to make an impact after replacing Alexis Sanchez in the 78th minute.
