SWOT Analysis of In-demand Leeds United Winger Wanted by Crystal Palace

Crystal Palace’s approach for Leeds United teenager Jack Clarke has been turned down, but the attacker is generating interest in the top flight.

The 19-year-old has emerged through the youth ranks of Leeds United, and has taken Championship by storm in recent weeks with his scintillating performances.

Clarke’s current contract with the Yorkshire based outfit runs till 2021, and Leeds United are eyeing an extension following his recent performances.

The Whites rate Clarke very highly and it was reported that Marcelo Bielsa’s side had earlier rejected an approach from the Eagles.

Apart from Roy Hodgson’s side, Bournemouth and Tottenham Hotspur are also believed to be interested, but they might have to fork out £12 million for his services according to the Mail.

Here is a SWOT Analysis of the Leeds star.

Strengths

Clarke has often added more spark to the Leeds attack this season with his driving runs on the wings as he has plenty of pace to burn and can pull off a trick or two.

The teenager has completed 1.5 dribbles per game this season which shows he isn’t afraid to test opposing defenders with his skills.

Clarke gets into decent positions and links up nicely with his teammates with his good short passes, as it’s pretty much a necessity under Bielsa.

In 12 league appearances, Clarke has scored two goals and registered two assists.

Weaknesses

The English prodigy has to improve his defensive contributions. He hasn’t fully acquainted himself with the defensive awareness for a winger, but considering he is still only 18, he will improve in that department.

Clarke also has to work on his stamina and perseverance to take his game to the next level as most of his appearances have come off the bench. He certainly needs to bulk up as well if he is to move to the Premier League.

Opportunities

Hodgson’s side have struggled to find goals this season and Clarke could be a handy option for the manager. Clarke can be used as an impact sub, similar to what he is doing at Leeds.

Threats

Despite early signs of promise, Clarke is far from a finished product. He might struggle to adjust himself under the pressures of the Premier League if his move eventually materialises, which could derail his career.

Palace’s Wilfried Zaha had a similar tough spell as he impressed with the Eagles in the Championship as a teenager, but struggled after moving to Manchester United.
