Southampton eyeing a transfer for fleet-footed attacker: The player Hasenhuttl needs

According to the Daily Star, via HITC, Southampton are keeping close tabs on Everton winger Ademola Lookman.

Southampton manager Ralph Hasenhuttl had worked with Lookman while he was in charge of German Bundesliga side RB Leipzig.

Lookman had a good spell in East Germany and Hasenhuttl is keen on a reunion with the fleet-footed attacker.

Ademola Lookman: Player Profile

Lookman spent his youth career with Waterloo and Charlton Athletic and was eventually promoted to the senior side of the latter. After making an impact for the Raddicks, he was brought to the Goodison Park in the January transfer window of 2017.

The Englishman joined RB Leipzig on loan for the second half of the 2017-18 season and often provided the spark when he was called upon.

Lookman was expected to make an impact for the Toffees this season, but has mustered just one Premier League start so far.

Reunion with Hasenhuttl would be good for the player and the club

Lookman is an explosive winger with pace to burn that enables him to drive forward and stretch defences. It’s evident that he has lacked confidence in his spell with Everton this season, but that doesn’t take away his abilities.

The 21-year-old can dribble well and his movement on and off the ball make him a tough player to mark in the opposition defence.

Hasenhuttl made good use of Lookman’s ability to press opposition players at Leipzig and that’s something we might see if he eventually signs for the Saints.

At the moment, the Saints are 18th in the Premier League standings after collecting 16 points from 21 league games so far and need more consistency in the second half of the season.

Most of their attackers have flattered to deceive and therefore, it goes without saying that Hasenhuttl needs to bring in reinforcements this month.

The English Under-21 international has an eye goal and at the same time, he has the know-how to create goal-scoring chances for his teammates. He would add more creativity and energy in the final third for Southampton which they are missing considerably this season.

Lookman is someone who has played under Hasenhuttl, so the adaptation time could be substantially reduced as well.
