Manchester City linked with Serie A midfield ace: Smashing move by Guardiola

A report by TuttoMercatoWeb has revealed that Manchester City are interested to sign Napoli midfielder Allan.

The report also states that Pep Guardiola’s side are expected to face stiff competition from Paris Saint-Germain in their quest to sign Allan.

Napoli rate the 28-year-old highly and will not sell the Brazilian for anything less than £89 million.

Allan: Profile

Allan started his senior career with renowned Brazilian football club Vasco da Gama before moving to Italian outfit Udinese. He consistently dazzled and Serie A after his move from Brazil, which urged Napoli to make a move for him in 2015.

The Brazilian has made 3.6 tackles and 1.1 interceptions per game on an average. Allan has also mustered more than 150 appearances across all competitions for the side, and has the experience of European football as well. He might not have tasted English football, but he has the ingredients to excel in the Premier League.

Why Manchester City need him

The defending Premier League champions have become over-reliant on Fernandinho and in his absence, they have not been able to stop counter attacks as effectively.

The Sky Blues need a world-class central defensive midfielder as they have none now to replace Fernandinho with. Besides, Fernandinho is set to turn 34 in May and the Citizens do need to get hold of someone who can fill in his boots.

Guardiola was desperate to land a midfielder during the summer transfer window but he couldn’t succeed in doing so. While Jorginho signed for Chelsea in the summer, Fred made a move to the Old Trafford.

Therefore, it would make a lot of sense if they acquire the services of Allan. He has good passing ability, can press, and is a brilliant technician on the ball. He sits back to cushion the defence and breaks opposition attacks.

Allan has the quality to work hard in order to retain possession, is dynamic enough to adjust in the game and always looks up to find a pass. He reads the game well and has a pass completion rate of 89.9% this season in Italian top flight.

Considering Allan has already played under Maurizio Sarri and Carlo Ancelotti, it wouldn’t be hard for him to adjust in Guardiola’s system.
