Everton are looking to sign Napoli midfielder Allan, but will have to pay a record fee to get their man.
The 29-year-old Brazilian has been with the Italian side since 2015, racking up over 200 appearances for the club.
As per Football Italia, Napoli value Allan at about £63 million, who has three years remaining on his current deal at the Italian club.
The experienced midfielder was managed by current Toffees manager Carlo Ancelotti when the Italian was Napoli manager.
Allan moved to Napoli in 2015 from Udinese. He has also made 9 appearances for the Brazilian national team.
Allan to Everton – Is he worth the fee?
Allan is a hard-working box-to-box midfielder, who contributes in both defence and attack for Napoli.
Capable of playing as a defensive midfielder or central midfielder, Allan is a strong and quick player with a lot of energy, and the determination and drive to win the ball back with his tackles and interceptions.
The Brazilian has averaged 2.8 tackles per game in the 2019-20 Serie A season for Napoli. Allan also likes to drive forward with the ball and provide support to the attackers from midfield. He is a decent passer, who has averaged 2.6 long balls per game so far this season.
Everton need at least one midfielder in their team, as injuries and patchy form hasn’t helped Ancelotti’s cause this season. The likes of Morgan Schneiderlin and Fabian Delph weren’t consistent enough and also had injury issues, which forced the Toffees to play Gylfi Sigurdsson in a central midfield area.
The Merseyside outfit need more quality options in midfield, but buying a midfielder who will turn 30 next year, that too for a whopping fee of £63 million does not make much sense.
Allan is not a goal-scoring midfielder, so Everton should not pay Napoli’s asking price. The Toffees should look elsewhere to find a hard-working midfielder like Allan.
The club already have a few experienced midfielders in Schneiderlin, Delph and Sigurdsson, and the Premier League side need to buy someone younger, around whom they can build their midfield in the next five years or more.
