Manchester United extended their winless run to five games after suffering a 3-1 defeat against arch-rivals Liverpool at Anfield this evening.
The Red Devils were clumsy throughout the game despite making full use of Alisson’s mistake in the first half as a second-half brace from Xherdan Shaqiri was enough to seal all three points for the Reds.
Here are the United players rated in their disappointing loss to Liverpool.
David de Gea (8/10): A good performance from the Spanish international, who made a host of excellent saves to keep his side in the contest. But, he will still be disappointed to have conceded three goals as once again fails to keep a clean sheet in the Premier League.
Matteo Darmian (6/10): Struggled against the duo of Sadio Mane and Andrew Robertson on the far side. Mane, in particular, often hassled the Italian international, who looks destined to leave the club sooner rather than later.
Eric Bailly (7.5/10): By far the most diligent defender of the evening, Bailly fought hard throughout the course of the game. His tally of five tackles, three clearances and seven interceptions make him the most active defender than anyone else on the pitch.
Victor Lindelof (6.5/10): While Bailly was doing his best to keep Liverpool on the bay, Lindelof struggled to provide any sort of meaningful protection. His positioning didn’t make much sense while the former Benfica also struggled to cope with the duo of Mohamed Salah and Roberto Firmino.
Ashley Young (7/10): Started the game very sloppy, misplacing a few key passes but his performance significantly improved as the game wore on. In fact, he played a key role in the second half, often providing additional support to the winger on the left-hand side.
Diogo Dalot (4/10): A disastrous performance by the Portuguese youngster, who made a host of errors in the first half. In fact, a couple of poor touches even led to suitable counter-attacking opportunities for Liverpool. He was rightfully taken off after the restart.
Ander Herrera (5/10): Couldn’t influence the game as he was completely outclassed by Fabinho and co. He also should have done much better in providing the creative spark in the absence of Paul Pogba from the starting eleven.
Nemanja Matic (5.5/10): Another disappointing display from the Serbian international, who looked terribly out of pace against the likes of Naby Keita and Georginio Wijnaldum. He was dispossessed once and rarely had any influence over the game.
Marcus Rashford (6.5/10): Largely anonymous for the most part of the game, Rashford’s pace did cause Liverpool some problems at the start of the second half but not enough to breach a well organised Reds defence.
Jesse Lingard (7/10): Did extremely well to react to Alisson’s huge mistake in the first half but didn’t do much afterwards aside from putting in a host of shots on goal, most of which were rather tame.
Romelu Lukaku (5/10): Yet another awful performance from the Belgian international, who struggled against van Dijk and was very ineffective in attack.
Substitutes
Marouane Fellaini (6.5/10): Added more steel in midfield after replacing Dalot in the second half but it had very little impact as Liverpool continued to dominate the midfield.
Anthony Martial (NA): Replaced Herrera in the 79th minute but had very little time to make a notable impact.
Juan Mata (NA): An 85th-minute replacement for Jesse Lingard.
