It is crunch time for Liverpool in the Champions League when they travel to Parc des Princes to take on Paris Saint-Germain on Wednesday.
The Reds suffered a shock 2-0 defeat at the hands of Red Star Belgrade in the previous matchday that has made matters a bit more complicated for the Merseyside outfit. Liverpool need a result against PSG to ensure they still have a good chance to making it to the next round.
A draw against PSG in France will help Liverpool achieve a superior head to head over the Parisians and in that case, Reds will have to match PSG’s result on the final matchday.
Jürgen Klopp’s side had a brilliant second half against Watford on Saturday to win the game 3-0 at Vicarage Road and remain just two points behind league leaders Manchester City. The clash against PSG away will be a tough encounter, however.
Liverpool Team News
Liverpool were without Joe Gomez during the win over Watford but the England international is in the running to make it back in time for the clash against PSG. Fabinho was on the bench against Watford and came late on. He is in line to start in midfield.
Predicted Liverpool Lineup
Defence
Liverpool’s defence has been solid this season but against PSG’s attack, the Reds will have to be on their toes. Gomez is expected to line up alongside Virgil van Dijk at the heart of the defence.
Dejan Lovren did a good job against Watford but Gomez is expected to return as the Englishman has moved above Lovren in the pecking order.
Andy Robertson and Trent Alexander-Arnold should start as the two full-backs. Both the full-backs did well against Neymar and Kylian Mbappe on matchday one of the Champions League.
Alisson should keep his place in goal.
Midfield
Fabinho has improved in recent weeks and will be key against PSG. The Brazilian is likely to start ahead of Jordan Henderson in the deeper midfield role.
Georginio Wijnaldum and James Milner should start alongside Fabinho in midfield. Xherdan Shaqiri has done well but against a heavy PSG attack, we expect Klopp to play it safe and go with a three-man midfield.
Attack
Roberto Firmino broke his mini goal-drought against Watford and will lead the line. The Brazilian came off the bench to score the winner in the previous meeting between PSG and Liverpool.
Sadio Mane and Mohamed Salah will complete the three-man attack for the Reds.
Mane – Firmino – Salah
Milner – Fabinho – Wijnaldum
Robertson – van Dijk – Gomez – TAA
