Arsenal Player Ratings vs Crystal Palace: Holding Shines For The Gunners

Arsenal’s winning run came to an end against Crystal Palace at the Selhurst Park earlier today. Luka Milivojevic found the back of the net just before the break with his penalty kick but the Gunners responded well in the second half with a goal each from Granit Xhaka and Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang.

The Eagles kept questioning the back line of the visiting side time and again after trailing and eventually, were handed another penalty after Xhaka’s error inside the box which was converted once again by Milivojevic. Here are our Arsenal player ratings from their draw against Roy Hodgson’s men.

Bernd Leno 7/10

The custodian was beaten by two spot kicks but overall, he fared in a composed manner under the bar and is making the no.1 shirt his very own.

Hector Bellerin 6/10

Bellerin missed a great chance in the first half after he took a lot of time to shoot. He was replaced at the half-time after receiving a knock.

Shkodran Mustafi 5/10

The German was all over the place most of the times when the home side attacked and his rash tackle on Cheikhou Kouyate earned Crystal Palace their first penalty.

Rob Holding 7/10

Holding was unarguably the best defender today for the north London based outfit. Barring a handball, which was not penalised, he was resilient at the back.

Granit Xhaka 6/10

His sensational free-kick brought Arsenal back into the game and he fared well at the unfamiliar left-back slot. However, he tripped Wilfried Zaha inside the box, which eventually brought Hodgson’s side on equal terms late in the game.

Matteo Guendouzi 6/10

The young gun was very energetic in the middle of the park and toiled relentlessly. But then, he failed to get forward often.

Lucas Torreira 7/10

Arsenal’s summer signing was tough with his tackles and moved the ball forward with great pace and precision.

Alex Iwobi 6/10

He was far from impressive and there is no denying that he struggled against Patrick van Aanholt and Aaron Wan-Bissaka. A lot more fluidity was expected from him.

Mesut Ozil 5/10

The attacking midfielder was a shadow of what he was against Leicester City, His magical touches were missing and he looked bereft of ideas to unlock Crystal Palace’s defence.

Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang 6/10

It was a largely anonymous display by the Gabon international whose only notable contribution was his goal from very close range.

Alexandre Lacazette 5/10

Lacazette struggled to breach past James Tomkins and Mamadou Sakho as they kept a close eye on his movements. It was his awful pass that had Crystal Palace on the run for their second penalty kick.

Substitutions

Stephan Lichtsteiner 6/10

He replaced Bellerin at half-time and put on a good defensive as well as offensive show.

Danny Welbeck 6/10

The English forward substituted Ozil on the 68th minute and he did bring a lot of energy.

Aaron Ramsey 5/10

He replaced Aubameyang on the 78th minute but he failed to churn any sort of impact.
