Braithwaite To Return: Predicted 3-4-3 Middlesbrough Lineup To Beat Norwich City

Despite missing out an immediate top-flight return last season, Tony Pulis’ Middlesbrough are enjoying a strong run and are unbeaten so far in all competitions. They are yet to concede in the league since the opening weekend and held Leeds United to a scoreless draw at Elland Road prior to the international break.

Boro are behind Leeds only on goal difference and will be eyeing all three points against a struggling Norwich City side at Carrow Road on Saturday afternoon.

Rudy Gestede is still sidelined with an ankle injury. Martin Braithwaite is in line for a return after a failed deadline day move.

Predicted Middlesbrough Lineup (3-4-3)

Defence

Darren Randolph left West Ham last year for regular minutes and is now enjoying a good run between the sticks, having clinched five successive clean sheets in the league. He will be keen on stretching it further this weekend.

Pulis has preferred a back three in recent outings. The gaffer has found the right combination in the trio of Daniel Ayala, Aden Flint and youngster Dael Fry who has done well after replacing Ben Gibson.

Although Boro have loaned in ex-Wolves skipper Danny Batth to strengthen their defensive resources, Fry remains the preferred choice. He has managed 5.7 clearances a game and that is an impressive number, justifying his place in the team.

Midfield

The manager has altered the midfield pretty often but should go with a 3-4-3, shifting Stewart Downing into the attacking third despite some impressive outings in a makeshift deeper role.

Fullbacks Ryan Shotton and George Friend will continue operating from the flanks as wingbacks. However, they’ll have to prioritise their defensive responsibilities over attacking contributions.

Adam Clayton should retain his place in central midfield alongside Jonny Howson, the ex-Norwich City star, who usually operates in a box-to-box role. The latter featured in a slightly advanced role against Leeds United before the break. The former has managed more tackles (3.2) a game than any other Boro player so far this season.

Attack

Stewart Downing should be restored in his usual right-wing role. He is a good option as an inverted winger and has recorded at least one key pass per game so far this season.

Britt Assombalonga will offer the physicality up front in a number 9 role. The fans will be content that the club managed to keep Martin Braithwaite, even though he was angling for a move. He has scored thrice in five league games and will look to improve that further this weekend.
