As per one of the latest reports by Metro, Manchester United are keeping close tabs on Atletico Madrid defender Lucas Hernandez. The Red Devils are pondering over a possible move for him in the January transfer window as Jose Mourinho continues to search for defensive reinforcements.
Despite Mourinho’s demand of signing a new central defender during the summer transfer window, Manchester United’s chiefs refused to meet the need of the Portuguese. The club is now preparing to amend their mistake after a tumultuous start to their new season in the Premier League.
Hernandez is a versatile defender who is capable of plying his trade as a centre-back as well as a left-back. The 22-year-old is an established player in the ranks of the Spanish giants and has a release clause of £72m slapped on his collar. Apart from Manchester United, Real Madrid are also interested to make him sign on the dotted line.
However, Diego Simeone’s camp are expected to be reluctant to let him move to Santiago Bernabeu as Real Madrid are their direct rivals. Therefore, the Red Devils do have the upper hand and it would be intriguing to see whether rumours of Hernandez’s move to the Old Trafford substantiates into a deal in January.
