A valiant effort in the second half came for nothing as Leicester City fell to their second defeat in the Premier League this season when they welcomed Liverpool to King Power this weekend. The visitors opened the scoring through Sadio Mane and doubled their lead before halftime with Roberto Firmino as Leicester City looked out of sorts for most of the first half.
However, Claude Puel’s men came back strongly, keeping the pressure on Liverpool, and finally pulled one back, taking advantage of Alisson Becker’s mistake, as Rachid Ghezzal fired home from five yards out. But Liverpool managed to hold on to their one-goal advantage to win their fourth game of the season, as Leicester City were left to rue a below-par first-half performance, dropping all three points. Kasper Schmeichel (6):
Could do nothing to stop either goal but was otherwise a calming influence to the back line on goal.
Ricardo Pereira (5):
Put Robertson under a lot of pressure, constantly making attacking runs but was at times caught out of position giving the likes of Mane loads of space down the right. Was at fault for the Scottish full-back creating the first goal.
Wes Morgan (5):
Was rarely tested in the air but did well to cut off passing lanes, however, failed to keep up with the runs of Robertson and should have done better in the build-up to the first goal.
Harry Maguire (6):
With five tackles and a passing accuracy of 86%, Maguire was the best defender for Leicester in the game, happy to carry the ball out from the back and set up attacks in the second half.
Ben Chilwell (6):
Was restricted to a defensive role and did well to keep close to Salah in a mediocre first half for the Foxes. Was a different player in the second half, troubling Liverpool down their right flank.
Wilfried Ndidi (5):
Failed to keep up with the pace of the Liverpool attacks and provided very little cover for the backline in a frantic first half for the hosts.
Nampalys Mendy (5):
Recycled possession well but did not do enough to keep Liverpool quiet throughout the game.
Rachid Ghezzal (7):
Was at the right place to find Leicester’s first goal and was a real threat for the visitors on the flank, as he completed two dribbles and three tackles all game, on his first Premier League start.
James Maddison (6):
Should have scored one or even two on the night as his vision and creativity were an issue for the Liverpool midfield, till he was subbed off.
Marc Albrighton (5):
Added some stele to the midfield but failed to have enough of an impact, leaving Liverpool comfortable on their right flank.
Demarai Gray (5):
Started in a false-9 role but had very little service in the first half. Was happy to stretch the Liverpool backline but posed no real threat to Alisson’s goal.
Subs:
Kelechi Iheanacho (7):
Added some energy to the Leicester attack, as they looked a different side in the second half. Did well to force a mistake from the Liverpool keeper and set up Leicester City’s only goal on the night.
Shinji Okazaki (5):
Had just 15 minutes to make an impact but did not find himself in the right places to cause Liverpool any trouble.
