As per one of the latest reports by Express, Leicester City are monitoring Chelsea midfielder Danny Drinkwater with an ambition to take him back to the King Power Stadium in January. Apart from the Foxes, Southampton are also believed to be keen to make him sign on the dotted line.
Drinkwater has found it difficult to get first-team opportunities under his belt with the Blues ever since his £35m move from Leicester City last summer. He has been cornered by Maurizio Sarri this season and his chances of featuring regularly have diminished further after the arrival of Jorginho at the Stamford Bridge.
The English international featured regularly under the tutelage of Leicester City’s former manager Claudio Ranieri during the 2015-16 season and helped them in clinching the Premier League title. In all honesty, his career has been stagnating at Chelsea and he needs to move elsewhere to resurrect his career.
Reportedly, the Foxes were in talks with Chelsea to sign the 28-year-old during the summer transfer window, but his move failed to materialize. A player of his calibre needs to ply his trade week in and week out and it would be intriguing to see whether Claude Puel’s camp manages to prise him out of the ranks of Chelsea in January or not.
