As per one of the latest reports by Liverpool Echo, Liverpool have decided to stick with Alisson Becker as their Champions League shot-stopper. Alisson, who made a £67m move from Roma during the summer transfer window, is Jurgen Klopp’s first-choice between the sticks.
The goalkeeping slot was a cause of concern for Klopp’s side last term. In the group stages of the Champions League, Loris Karius was stationed under the bar, although Simon Mignolet featured in the qualifying round against Hoffenheim and in most of the Premier League games in the first half of the season.
After the turn of the New Year, Klopp made Karius his overall first-choice. However, the German’s blunders cost Liverpool the Champions League title against Real Madrid in May. The 25-year-old has been shipped out on loan for a couple of years to Besiktas and Mignolet, who is likely to feature in cup competitions, is deputy to Alisson.
Klopp is reportedly reluctant to rotate his custodians this time around and his decision does make a lot of sense. Liverpool are chalked in a really tough group, as they are drawn alongside Paris Saint-Germain, Napoli and Red Star Belgrade in Group C.
