One of the major headaches for Arsenal’s new manager Unai Emery is the contractual situation of Aaron Ramsey. The Welsh international’s current deal with the north London outfit is due to expire at the end of the ongoing season and talks about an extension have stalled.
Ramsey signed for Arsenal a decade ago after he was prised out of the ranks of Cardiff City. So far, he has managed to win three FA Cups with his current employers and is unarguably one of the most prized assets on the books of the former Paris Saint-Germain manager.
The midfielder’s representatives have publicly shot down the speculations that he is stalling a new deal due to monetary factors. Intriguingly, Arsenal’s legend Nigel Winterburn believes that Ramsey is waiting to see how the club fares under the tutelage of Unai Emery and that Chelsea and Manchester United will battle to secure his signature.
Winterburn said: “With less than a year remaining on his contract, Ramsey is in a very strong negotiating position and is also a very attractive proposition for a lot of big clubs around Europe. I think Manchester United and Chelsea will both battle it out to sign him if they feel he is seriously considering leaving Arsenal.”
