Rangers are set to visit Fir Park to take on Motherwell this Sunday afternoon and should avoid an upset against a side who have so far lost both of their league encounters and are at the bottom of the standings.
Despite a few injury concerns, Rangers should not have too many problems against Motherwell.
Rangers – Team News
Jamie Murphy has been ruled out of the entire campaign following an ACL tear. Jordan Rossiter and Graham Dorrans still remain sidelined through ankle and knee injuries. There is uncertainty over the availability of the impressive Lassana Coulibaly who has missed out on a few fixtures due to a thigh strain.
Rangers Probable Lineup (4-3-3)
Defence
Veteran Allan McGregor has been immense in goal so far and it’s unlikely Gerrard will rotate in the goalkeeping department. Connor Goldson and Nikola Katic are expected to line up in central defence.
Although Gerrard is eyeing for further defensive reinforcements, this duo has been exceptional so far and have been pretty resilient. Skipper James Tavernier has improved his defensive contribution under Gerrard and will start at right-back.
Left-back Borna Barisic has been immense so far in his couple of appearances since completing a transfer from Osijek and is likely to return to action after missing out the midweek Europa League qualifier tie against FC UFA due to ineligibility.
Midfield
Ryan Jack has improved significantly after a difficult first season and must start against Motherwell in central midfield. Ovie Ejaria should retain his place in case Coulibaly fails to recover before the clash.
Scott Arfield will complete the three-man midfield and will be given an attacking role.
Attack
Jamie Murphy’s injury means we will see Ryan Kent get more minutes as well as responsibility down the right-hand flank. The Liverpool loanee has shown glimpses of his quality but needs to add more consistency to his game.
Daniel Candeias should start on the opposite flank. The Gers roped in veteran Kyle Lafferty from Hearts, but the Northern Irishman will have to compete with the sensational Alfredo Morelos for a first-team slot.
The young Colombian has already notched 6 goals in 10 outings and should be retained upfront ahead of Lafferty. The latter might be introduced later on to slowly integrate him into the team.
