Unai Emery made as many as five signings after he took the managerial hot-seat at the Emirates Stadium following the departure of Arsene Wenger to fix the loopholes which existed. Lucas Torreira was one of the newcomers at Arsenal from the ranks of Sampdoria.
Torreira was signed for £26m after Uruguay’s exit from the 2018 World Cup in Russia and he already has immense expectations to live up to. The 22-year-old is yet to start a Premier League game for the north London based outfit after his move, although he has made three appearances off the bench.
Interestingly, his agent Pablo Bentancur has admitted that a move to the ranks of Italian side Napoli would have been ‘perfect’ for the midfielder. As there was confusion regarding Napoli’s managerial situation, before Carlo Ancelotti’s arrival, Torreira made up his mind to finalize his move to Arsenal.
Bentancur said: “It’s a pity, I’m sorry Ancelotti wasn’t there at the start of the negotiations. He’d have been a great help for Torreira, he has tremendous international experience. If Arsenal had collapsed then Napoli would have been perfect.”
