Premier League Matchweek 1 is completed. Many things were learned from last week and fans will be agog for the second Matchweek to commence. Will Arsenal find a way to win three points against Sarri’s Chelsea or they will suffer another defeat from their direct rival? Can Manchester City continue their rampant form without Kevin De Bruyne who is set to miss at least two months of football? Can Fulham stick to a specific style of play after buying almost a new XI in this transfer window?
Let’s see the three players to watch out for in this second week of Premier League.
#3 Lucas Torreira
The Uruguayan’s move to Arsenal was a big relief for Arsenal fans who were demanding the board to sign a talented holding midfielder. Lucas Torreira has all the attributes to develop into one of the best in his position. He is coming after a breakthrough season with Sampdoria and impressed everyone in the World Cup. His presence in front of the backline was one of the main reasons that Uruguay was the team to concede the least number of goals in the tournament.
He didn’t start against Manchester City last weekend but will be hoping to get his first full debut with Gunners. Xhaka could make way for him as he had failed to put consistent performances for the team. Ramsey could be slotted alongside Torreira in a deeper role.
#2 Paul Pogba
The World cup winner is always in the news whether due to his form or due to his issues with the manager. He was given the captain-armband by Jose Mourinho in their premier league kick-off game of this season. His first contribution to the game was a “Hollywood pass” across the field to Matteo Darmian which was lustily applauded by Old Trafford and then went on to score season’s first goal for Manchester United in the third minute.
His influence faded as the game progressed but that was mainly due to the tiredness after World Cup. After having a great start to the new season, he made the headlines with his comments that he would be fined for by the board if he speaks the things he isn’t allowed to. This is just another indication of his sour relationship with Jose Mourinho.
#1 Bernardo Silva
After a dismal World Cup campaign with Portugal, Bernardo Silva has hit the ground running with Manchester City. He had an amazing pre-season and carried his form to Emirates Stadium where he scored the important second goal for the defending champions. With Kevin De Bruyne injured, this is the time for him to stake his claim for a starting spot in the team.
Last time when Kevin De Bruyne got injured, City lost four games in two months but that was when Silva wasn’t a Man City player. Pep Guardiola will be looking to deploy the Portuguese crafty player in the midfield alongside Fernandinho and David Silva.
