According to one of the latest reports by Express, Manchester United have agreed on personal terms with Tottenham Hotspur defender Toby Alderweireld. The Red Devils want the Belgian central defender to be their final signing of what has been a strange transfer window for them.
Manchester United lured there new players to the Old Trafford in June, namely, Fred, Diogo Dalot and Lee Grant. However, there has been lack of activities after their swift movements in signing the aforesaid trio. They have been linked with Barcelona’s Yerry Mina and Leicester City’s Harry Maguire time and again, but nothing concrete has emerged so far.
Alderweireld’s contract with Spurs is due to expire in 2020 and he hasn’t agreed to a new deal with the North London based outfit. Jose Mourinho is keen to have more resilience at the back to make a serious challenge for the Premier League title, despite having Eric Bailly, Marcos Rojo, Phil Jones, Victor Lindelof and Chris Smalling in his arsenal.
According to Bleacher Report, Mourinho doesn’t see Maguire as an outstanding player which he needs in his side this season and instead of him, he would prefer having Alderweireld in his defence. Therefore, the 29-year-old remains as the top priority for Manchester United, with the transfer window set to shut down on 9th August.
