Dembele To Lead The Line: Predicted 4-2-3-1 Celtic Lineup vs FK Suduva

Celtic suffered a shock exit from the Champions League qualifiers a couple of weeks ago and will try to make it to the second tier of European competition, the Europa League. The defeat (over two legs) against AEK Athens means they will have to clinch a favourable outcome against little-known Lithuanian minnows FK Suduva in the return leg of the Europa League play-off fixture at Celtic Park.

The Hoops managed a 1-1 draw on the road and the crucial away goal will hand them a significant boost on Thursday night where a clean sheet will be sufficient to win the tie.

Celtic – Team News

Celtic’s crisis in defence continues as Jack Hendry and Jozo Simunovic both missed last weekend’s tie against Hamilton Academical through ankle injuries and are doubtful for the European encounter.

The injury-riddled spell of veteran Marvin Compper is not over yet while the versatile Nir Bitton is yet to resume team training following his knee surgery earlier this year.

Lewis Morgan and Odsonne Edouard, the attacking duo, are recovering from their respective knee and hamstring injuries but the midweek tie might be too soon for them to return to action.

Predicted Celtic Lineup (4-2-3-1)

Defence

Veteran Craig Gordon, in his mid-thirties, is still one of Celtic’s most consistent performers and will have a tricky test on Thursday. Dedryck Boyata and Kristoffer Ajer will start as the central defensive duo.

Boyata, the wantaway Belgian international, was brought back into action against Hamilton where he notched the solitary goal and the gaffer will demand a similar show even if he departs before 31st August’s deadline.

Mikael Lustig will add the experience in the right-back role and should be given the nod over Cristian Gamboa. Kieran Tierney will add pace, flair and attacking threat from the opposite flank.

Midfield

Skipper Scott Brown will retain his place in central midfield and his physical presence and distribution will be key. Olivier Ntcham, who scored the crucial away goal in the first leg, was introduced late on Sunday afternoon but is expected to start the fixture against the Lithuanians.

James Forrest has been a regular down the right flank ahead of Jonny Hayes and should make it to the starting XI despite having a few underwhelming outings in recent weeks.

Callum McGregor has been one of Celtic’s versatile stars who has excelled on the left wing under Rodgers and will be a massive influence if he continues his impressive run.

Tom Rogic, the Australian playmaker, should be handed the number 10 role behind the lone forward.

Attack

Although he failed to find the back of the net last weekend in spite of numerous opportunities, Moussa Dembele should be preferred over Leigh Griffiths. The Frenchman has shaken off his early injury woes and is gradually regaining his touch having netted thrice in six appearances in all competitions.
