Arsenal made five signings during the summer transfer window under the tutelage of their new boss Unai Emery. Sokratis, Bernd Leno, Stephan Lichtsteiner, Matteo Guendouzi and Lucas Torreira were lured to the Emirates Stadium as Emery spent more than £70m to beef up his squad.
However, another player who the Gunners were interested in roping in was Barcelona’s impressive winger Ousmane Dembele. Reportedly, the North London based outfit had offered £9m to sign Dembele on loan for this season and would have shelled out £80m to sign him permanently next summer.
Intriguingly, the Spanish giants refused to inform the French World Cup winner about Arsenal’s interest to sign him, as per one of the latest reports by Daily Star. Barca were reportedly convinced that Dembele would have decided against the idea of switch to the ranks of the Premier League outfit.
With the transfer window done and dusted for the English top flight sides, it is due to remain open for the other European teams until the end of this month. Apparently, Paris Saint-Germain are set to take the advantage of Arsenal’s absence in the transfer market as they are believed to be preparing an audacious bid to sign Dembele.
