Leicester City have bounced back well after their opening day defeat to Manchester United. The Foxes beat Southampton last weekend, after getting the better of Wolves the weekend before, and they will be in confident mood after they made light work of Fleetwood in the League Cup on Tuesday.
The Foxes put four past the League One outfit but they face a tough task this weekend when they welcome Liverpool to the King Power Stadium.
The Reds are unbeaten in the league this season and haven’t conceded a single goal yet. They look a formidable side but are yet to hit top gear and Claude Puel will believe that his side can test them in this early kick-off on Saturday.
Leicester City – Team News
Jamie Vardy saw a red against Wolves on matchday two and will miss another game before he is available. Caglar Soyuncu is still not match-fit and might play no role.
Matthew James continues his recovery from a calf strain and won’t be available either.
Expected Leicester City lineup (4-2-3-1)
Defence
Kasper Schmeichel has 3.3 saves per game and has been impressive early on this season. The custodian will have to be at his best if Leicester are to deny Liverpool a win.
Harry Maguire was rested for the League Cup tie but should be back in action and will have to keep a close eye on Roberto Firmino and Mohamed Salah, both of who can hurt the hosts. Wes Morgan and his aerial prowess at the back could be crucial for Leicester and he should start alongside Maguire at the heart of the defence.
Ben Chilwell has been one of the most consistent players for the Foxes this season and he should keep his place at left back against Liverpool but will have a tough day against Mohamed Salah. Daniel Amartey could get a chance at right-back.
Midfield
Wilfried Ndidi averages three tackles, two interceptions and two clearances per game and has been Leicester City’s best midfielder this season. He should start at the heart of the midfield alongside Nampalys Mendy, who has a passing accuracy of 95% this season.
Attack
Ricardo Pereira has an assist to his name, playing in a winger’s role on the right flank. He also has 4.3 tackles, 2.7 clearances and wins 2.3 aerial duels per game and will add extra cover and balance to Leicester City’s right flank. Demarai Gray, who has a goal and three chances created to his name this season, deserves to keep his place on the left flank.
With a goal to his name already, James Maddison has been the creator in chief for the Foxes this season. He gets fouled around four times a game and could be a tricky customer in the middle of the park.
In the absence of Vardy, Kelechi Iheanacho, who scored in the League Cup tie against Fleetwood, should lead the attack for Leicester. He will have the tough task of breaching a Liverpool defence comprising of an in-form Virgil van Dijk.
Here is how they might line up:
