According to a recent report by Daily Star, Watford are eyeing Liverpool’s out-of-favour striker Divock Origi. The Reds have slapped a price tag of £26million on Origi’s collar and are willing to sell him on a permanent deal. However, Javi Gracia’s side are interested to prise him out of Anfield on loan.
Origi is deemed as surplus to the requirements for Jurgen Klopp. The former Borussia Dortmund manager generally operates with attacking midfielders supporting one striker up top. Roberto Firmino is undoubtedly his first choice centre-forward and apart from the Brazilian international, Klopp seems to be favouring Daniel Sturridge and Dominic Solanke as deputies to Firmino.
The Hornets had recently sanctioned the sale of Richarlison to Everton for a whopping £40million and they are certainly not bereft of resources right now. Gracia is in the hunt for a new attacker and apparently, Origi is on his radar. Having emerged through the youth ranks of Genk and Lille, Origi was quick to draw the attention of the football fraternity.
He started his senior career with Lille and in the summer of 2014, he was signed by Liverpool for £10million and was immediately loaned out to the French outfit. He spent the previous campaign on loan with Wolfsburg and managed to carve a respectable position in the ranks of the German Bundesliga outfit. The 23-year-old plundered 6 goals and 2 assists in 31 German top-flight appearances.
Besides, he has also represented the Belgian national side on a few occasions and is a highly rated prospect back in his country. To ensure that his developmental process remains in the ascendancy, he needs to ply his trade on a regular basis. He is unlikely to get the same if he stays at Liverpool and it would make a lot of sense if he moves to Watford, although it is to be seen whether Klopp sanctions his loan move or not.
He would be an ideal signing for Gracia who has just lost the services of Richarlison. Origi has pace to burn and is a good dribbler. The Belgian international has an eye for goal and is clever with his movements in the box. By no means is he a finished product but he is still in his learning years and is expected to better his credentials in the coming seasons.
