According to a recent report by Goal, Celtic have Australian teenager Daniel Arzani on their radar. Arzani is set to make a move to the ranks of Manchester City from Melbourne City and is expected to be loaned out immediately to brush himself further. And Celtic Park has emerged as the most likely loan destination for the player.
Strengths
Arzani is rated as one of the hottest properties in Australian football at the moment. He loves to take players on at pace and is surprisingly calm headed and confident in his approach play. He is not afraid to express himself on the pitch and that is something managers like Pep and Rodgers appreciate in a player.
Not having a daunting frame enables him to operate with a low centre of gravity and his excellent balance on the ball allows him to breeze past the opposition with relative ease. The winger is an astute passer of the ball and has the knack to create chances as well as to find the back of the net.
Weaknesses
Often, the 19-year-old has been criticized for going down too easily on being challenged. Besides, he needs to make a lot more defensive contributions to become a utility player for a top team. He will have to work on his physique and has to learn to deal with the rough side of the game if he is to make it in top level football.
Opportunities
The Bhoys are in a dire need of a wide man following the departures of Charly Musonda and Patrick Roberts and Arzani could fit the bill. He showed his calibre during the 2018 World Cup in Russia after he became the youngest player to be included in Australia’s World Cup squad. His promising performances therein grabbed a lot of eyeballs.
Brendan Rodgers has perennially been inclined to work with blossoming young players and Arzani would learn a lot under the stewardship of the former Liverpool boss. Playing alongside Tom Rogic at Celtic should also help him in bettering his credentials.
Threats
Celtic are a big club and thus, there would be a lot of expectations from him if the move materialises. The immediate pressure to make his presence felt might have a detrimental effect on his developmental process.
He is very much a work-in-progress and is not familiar with Scottish football. A lot of work is still needed technically and physically and it would be intriguing to see how his progress pans out.
