Huddersfield Town Willing To Pay £10m For Belgian Winger: Right Move By Wagner?

According to British news outlet Sun, Huddersfield Town are closing in on the capture of Anthony Limbombe. The Club Brugge winger has been linked with a move to Premier League for a long time and a summer move could be on the horizon.

It is reported that Huddersfield boss David Wagner is willing to pay £10m for the Belgian as he engineers a squad overhaul this summer. He has also signed Adama Diakhaby on a 5-year deal which took his summer signings to eight. The intent from Wagner has been met with a positive reaction and the fans will hope that all of this translates into performances on the pitch when the season starts.

After narrowly escaping relegation in the Premier League last term, Huddersfield are determined to make an impression in the upcoming campaign. As a result of which, coach Wagner has stressed a lot on bolstering his attacking department in the summer, having already captured Egyptian starlet Ramadan Sobhi.

Limbombe, on the other hand, is regarded as one of the top wingers in the Belgian top flight. Since joining Club Brugge in the summer of 2016, the former Genk sensation has seven goals and twelve assists in 67 matches in all competitions.

Although those numbers may not seem staggering when compared to other top wingers, what makes Limbombe an appealing target for the Terriers is the fact that he can add a significant amount of pace and dynamism in the team’s attack next season.

Blessed with sheer pace and dribbling qualities, the 24-year-old can provide a serious threat to the opposing defences thanks to his direct runs in behind the defence. In addition, he is also known for his proficiency in the counter attacks, making him a tailor-made fit for a club like Huddersfield.

Bearing in mind that the Premier League outfit have already secured the services Sobhi earlier this summer, Limbombe could operate as a left winger with the Egyptian being deployed on the other side of the flank. This, however, would significantly deteriorate Tom Ince’s game-time at Huddersfield next season, though he does remain a great option on the bench for coach Wagner.

It is understood that Limbombe is keen to move to the English top flight as he believes it will drastically increase his chances of making a breakthrough into Roberto Martinez’s Belgian national side. And in the form of Huddersfield, he will be presented with the perfect opportunity to showcase his talent in arguably the most competitive league in the world.
