According to reports, Huddersfield Town are considering a move for Davy Klaassen this summer. The Everton outcast has been linked with a move away from Goodison with both Huddersfield and Werder Bremen keen on his services.
It is believed that the Terriers are plotting a £23 million swoop for Klaassen although they could face stiff competition from Bundesliga outfit Bremen, who have identified him as an ideal replacement for Thomas Delaney. His current contract with Everton expires in 2022.
That being said, a move away from the club is likely given his struggles last season. After initially joining from Ajax for a fee of £24 million, Klaassen has failed to live up to his billing, making just seven Premier League appearances as the Toffees suffered yet another disappointing campaign.
Even though the Dutchman did make five appearances in their Europa League campaign, his struggles in getting used to Premier League football was evident and thus, newly appointed head coach Marco Silva is keen on getting rid of the former Ajax captain.
This, however, could be a big opportunity for Huddersfield Town to wrap up another top-quality signing this summer. The Terriers have been quite active in the market thus far, having made no less than eight signings.
They could still use some reinforcements in the midfield department, given their lack of depth in that area of the pitch.
What will Klaassen add to Huddersfield?
Although Aaron Mooy has proved to be an important asset for the club, coach David Wagner will be delighted to partner the Australian international alongside an equally talented operator in midfield.
In addition, Juninho Bacuna has been their only midfield addition this summer. But even then, the Groningen starlet comes with very little experience and is hardly expected to become a regular fixture in the starting eleven.
Klaassen, in that regard, could be an ideal candidate bearing in mind that the Dutchman has shown immense promise, barring his horrendous spell at Everton last season.
During his time in the Eredivisie, the 25-year-old won three league titles with Ajax while helping them reach the finals of the 2017 Europa League campaign.
Thus, Klaassen definitely bags leadership skills, which is definitely a valuable asset for a club like Huddersfield and given his sheer potential, a move for the Dutchman might just be the ideal decision as far as the Terriers are concerned.
However, it remains to be seen if the Premier League minnows are willing to spend further in the market, having already flushed almost 50 million euros in new signings this summer.
