Chelsea have embarked on yet another self-discovering journey having sacked successful coach Antonio Conte after just 2 years. The Italian, who had to undergo an awkward couple of days of overseeing the start of the training camp makes way for Maurizio Sarri, who has already joined the club after being linked with the job ever since January.
But what will excite the fans, even more, is the fact that Sarri has brought with him the highly coveted midfielder, Jorginho, to Stamford Bridge. In a drastic change of events, the Napoli midfielder, whose transfer to Manchester City was understood to have been all but completed, joins Chelsea now amidst much confusion and guesswork by pundits and the fans.
He has put pen to paper on a 5-year contract after City pulled out of the deal which is believed to be £50m.
Jorginho naturally sounded excited after joining the Premier League giants and was expressive in his first interview.
“I am absolutely ecstatic to be here at Chelsea,”
“It is not easy to become part of such a big team so I am very, very happy. I am excited to play in such an intense league for a team that gives everything to play and win.”
Brazil-born Jorginho had been at Napoli since 2014 and scored four goals in 36 appearances for the side last season as they finished second in Serie A.
He had also scored a penalty in Napoli’s 4-2 defeat against Manchester City last season.
Chelsea’s midfield does boast of a formidable look now with Kante and Jorginho certain starters. And with Sarri promising to bring attractive football back at the Bridge, the likes of Hazard and Willian will be eagerly awaiting their return to England and getting together under the new manager.
Twitter, as expected, had a lot of opinion on the deal. The Chelsea fans were expectedly delighted with the double announcements. But a lot of neutrals took the opportunity to take potshots at Pep Guardiola with the Catalan apparently losing out on a number of targets ever since coming to England.
Let us take a sneak peek into a few tweets coming up over the past hour.

Players City have lost in lst 6mths to rivals:
Sanchez -Utd
Fred -Utd
Jorginho -ChelseaImagine abuse Ed would get if that was him
Sometimes as fan we have to accept that no manager can get ‘every’ one of his targets, mang shouldn’t use that as an excuse

Van Dijk, Sanchez, Fred, Jorginho all turning Pep down in the last 6 months. Pep loving agenda press won’t like that.

JORGINHO Is A Coward ..
He was afraid he may not break into that Pep midfield. Everything clearly shows he was afraid. He will break into that Chelsea team any day @nyannthierry

I don’t know this Jorginho but for him to have been heavily linked with ManCity says alot about how good he is because Guardiola doesn’t go for average players.
