Transfer News:
Chelsea have done a smart piece of business by luring Italian midfielder Jorginho from Napoli and are looking to strengthen their midfield even more.
A recent report has linked Lazio midfielder Sergej Milinkovic-Savic to Chelsea, as the Serbian is looking for a move away from the Italian club. Chelsea will not be participating in the Champions League next season and this means that they would have more time to prepare for their domestic endeavours. Chelsea are looking to take the optimum advantage of this situation by targeting prolific players to ensure that they pose a domestic challenge next time around.
According to the above report, Savic has reciprocated this interest too. He considers the London-based club to be an ideal destination to play once he leaves Italy and hence a move could be made in the near future. It is believed the fate of this transfer saga lies in the outcome of Eden Hazard’s reported move to Real Madrid. If Hazard indeed leaves, then the club would look to utilize the funds that they would receive to bolster appropriate sections of the squad. That would also include a revamped midfield. Hence, Savic’s name is doing the rounds.
Sergej Milinkovic-Savic: Player Profile
The Serbian is a technically equipped, strong player who can dominate the central midfield with his sheer resilience and technical prowess. Savic’s close-control is exemplary and he can form quick passing triangles with his teammates due to his game-awareness and dribbling abilities. He can play in both advanced and deeper midfield positions, something that demonstrates his versatility and the tendency to set the tempo of the game with his assured and commanding presence at the centre of the park.
He is quick and industrious, with his relentless running behind the ball and then looking to create something noteworthy whenever he is in possession. Savic’s vision enables him to find his teammates on the move and his passing range is quite diverse, something that allows him to spread the play and pick out men from slightly deeper positions. He is a goal-scoring midfielder of sorts, as Savic regularly makes runs into the penalty box in order to pounce on loose balls. He is also not shy to take the occasional shot from distance as well.
He scored 12 goals and assisted thrice in 35 Serie A appearances last season. His goal-scoring exploits further add an extra dimension to his already impressive, creative playing style. Savic puts in a decent defensive shift too, as his discipline while winning the ball back and the tendency to regularly get involved in collective defensive work sets him apart from a number of modern midfielders.
Should Chelsea make a move?
Due to his qualities, Savic would be ideal for any top European club currently. However, Lazio will undoubtedly keep an unrealistic price tag of sorts for their prized asset and hence it remains to be seen whether Chelsea make any concrete bid for the Serbian international.
