Transfer News:
PSG were swashbuckling in their approach in the transfer market last summer, as they signed Neymar Jr. on a world-record deal. They also managed to capture Kylian Mbappe on a loan deal, which is supposed to be completed this summer. Once PSG sign Mbappe permanently, the lad will become the second-most expensive football player in history. However, there appears to be a late twist as FFP requirements now mean that PSG are reportedly considering selling Mbappe according to a recent report.
Manchester United, who have been troubled because of their lack of a proper right-winger, appear to be interested in this deal too. However, they would be forced to use Anthony Martial as a part of this transfer, as Martial too has been unsettled with lesser than expected playing time for him. This could actually result in a swap deal involving cash between both the clubs and here we examine its chances and the nature of this particular transfer.
Martial & Mbappe: Two shining stars
Anthony Martial arrived at Manchester United amidst much hype and settled in quickly with a brilliant debut season to his name. However, since then, he has struggled to adapt and deliver on a consistent basis under Jose Mourinho and was benched for the majority of the second half of last season in favour of Alexis Sanchez. Martial’s complacency and lesser tenacity makes him inferior to Sanchez in Mourinho’s eyes. However, Anthony is a wonderful finisher and guarantees a good tally of goals once he gets a proper run of games. This leaves his situation at United in a bit of the mix, as the manager and club look in no mood to let go of their reputed lad.
Mbappe, on the other hand, has maintained consistency and was unfazed even after his big move to PSG last summer. After a breakthrough season at Monaco, he continued with the same level of performances for the French giants too, forming a lethal partnership with Edinson Cavani and Neymar in the frontline. Moreover, Kylian became the youngest player to score a goal for France after he netted the team’s only goal against Peru. He is potent in front of the goal and defies logic with the maturity in his decision-making in the final third even at such a young age.
Will the clubs go ahead with the move?
The probability of this deal taking place is quite low, to be honest. PSG need to sell players worth €60m before the end of the month to be in accordance with the FFP and a number of deals already done seems to have landed them in a safe spot regarding this particular roadblock. And losing the hottest young prospect in the world will surely not be a decision which the ultra-rich owners of PSG will look to take. Similarly, despite his struggles, United will back Martial to battle the dry spell in his career and find his groove again at Old Trafford.
