Celtic Keen To Land £15m Rated Premier League Defender: A Sensible Move By Rodgers?

Celtic have already bagged another Scottish Premiership title and could end the season with a domestic treble once again if they manage to beat Motherwell in the final of the Scottish Cup. Despite their domestic superiority once again this season, there have been instances when the Celts have struggled against their opponents owing to the lack of required personnel to cater to their defensive needs.

Besides, the Glasgow giants really need to make their presence felt in the Champions League next season. Brendan Rodgers is likely to bolster his back-line during the summer transfer window and it will make a lot of sense if he does so. As per one of the latest reports by the Mirror, Celtic are keen to lure West Bromwich Albion defender, Craig Dawson, to the Celtic Park in the summer.

Dawson started his senior career with Radcliffe Borough and then moved to Rochdale. However, he became a renowned figure after he was signed by the Baggies in the summer of 2010. He has been an instrumental player for the club for a long time now and has lived to the expectations this season as well when most of his teammates have flattered to deceive. Apart from Celtic, West Ham United and Burnley are also interested in signing him in the summer.

The 28-year-old has appeared 27 times in the Premier League this season and has scored a couple of goals. Moreover, he has garnered 1.3 tackles, 1.8 interceptions, 4.8 clearances and 1 block per game on an average and has looked really resilient at the back. He is a cool and composed defender whose versatility of operating as a right-back and centre-back makes him an appealing commodity.

Dawson is good in the air, has the requisite technical understanding of the game and reads the attacking endeavours of the opposition in a meticulous fashion. Although he is neither an exceptional passer of the ball nor a strong tackler, he marks his man well and nullifies his weaknesses by working on his merits. Reportedly, West Bromwich Albion have slapped a price tag of £15million on his collar.

The axe of relegation from the Premier League is hovering over the Baggies despite their stupendous win over Tottenham Hotspur on Saturday and their eviction might prompt some of their key players to make an exit from the Hawthorns. A move to Celtic might appeal to Dawson as the least they can offer him is Champions League involvement and domestic superiority.
