Liverpool have a key summer transfer window coming up as the Reds will want to push Manchester City for the League title next season. The Reds have a pretty strong starting lineup but need good backup players to cover for performance dips and injury issues over the period of the season.
Often, the club is linked with players but latest developments hint that there’s a player who is desperate for a move to Liverpool. RB Leipzig forward Yussuf Poulsen revealed, “The Premier League would generally interest me. That would fit well with my game.
“As a kid I ‘kept’ Liverpool. My best friend was a fan of the club – and then you are somewhere, too.”
The Dane has a contract until 2021 with Leipzig and but his market value isn’t the highest which means Liverpool won’t have to shell out too much money to sign him.
Yussuf Poulsen – Stats
The Denmark international is one of the few players in the current Leipzig squad who has seen it all with the club. He was part of the team when they were in the lower divisions and though he might not be a household name yet, he was a key player for the team back then when they didn’t have the big names like Timo Werner.
In his first season with the club, he managed to score 10 goals and provide seven assists as the team comfortably made it to the second division. He didn’t stop there as he managed to better his tally by one goal, scoring 11 times. Though Leipzig didn’t make it to the top flight immediately, they took their chance in the ’15/16 season. Poulsen scored seven times during the course of that season.
He has started 17 games this season and but hasn’t found the back of the net too often. Leipzig’s form has fluttered this season and some of their players haven’t had the most consistent of seasons.
Poulsen has scored just four times and assisted just twice – numbers the Liverpool fans won’t like. However. like Firmino, he is a pretty selfless player and puts his team above anything else.
The transfer fee hasn’t been quoted yet but Klopp and co. will certainly find better forwards to have an instant impact at the club. At 23 years of age, Poulsen has the experience of playing in a competitive league and that could potentially tempt Klopp and Liverpool. If they do sign him, he’d be a long-term signing.
