Tottenham Hotspur are well within range of qualifying for the Champions League next season and also have a shot at the first silverware under Mauricio Pochettino, as they are still active in the FA Cup. But Spurs are in danger of losing star players to bigger clubs this summer and the club hierarchy is already busy trying to avoid that.
But more than the players, they will be desperate to keep hold of the Argentine mastermind, that is taking Spurs to another level.
Pochettino to be offered a new deal
Having helped Spurs establish themselves as European regulars, Pochettino is already attracting interest from some of the biggest clubs in Europe. Both PSG and Real Madrid are extensively linked with a move for the former Southampton manager but reports now claim that Tottenham Hotspur are ready to fend off all such interests, offering the Argentine a new deal.
According to reports from The Telegraph, Tottenham Hotspur are ready to make Pochettino one of the highest paid managers in the league on a new long-term deal and are also set to extend deals of up to six first-team stars before the start of the next season.
Spurs heading in the right direction
Spurs are a pretty consistent side in the league and are making progress in Europe. He still has a long way to go before he can compete for the UCL title but Spurs have already come close to the Premier League title and are not too far away from it.
They just need a couple of smart additions this summer but what will be important is to retain the core of the squad for years to come. The likes of Harry Kane, Dele Alli, Christian Eriksen, Mousa Dembele, Jan Vertonghen and even Hugo Lloris are all crucial to Spurs’ future and it is important that they retain each of those names for at least another couple of seasons.
But the essential deal for the club is to hold on to the services of Pochettino. The Argentine has grown step by step into one of the most respected managers in Europe and though is still without a trophy, is wanted by top clubs in Europe. So getting him to sign a new deal will be more important for the club.
Will Pochettino put pen to paper?
The report suggests that Spurs are desperate for the 46-year old to pen his new deal but Pochettino himself is yet to pledge his future to the club and it will be interesting to see how this pans out in the future.
The manager loves to work with youngsters and has done a great job with them so far in London. But he has very little experience of taking charge of a squad full of stars and might struggle. He will get enough funds to sign players he likes in Spain and France but it will not be as easy to rub his methods on such squads.
He may be tempted with such high profile jobs but Pochettino has a long career ahead of him and is better off staying in England, winning some silverware, before setting off on a European journey.
