Reported Manchester United target Dayot Upamecano, has recently spoken about his ambition to play for a bigger team in the future, during an interview with Telefoot.
“As a youngster, you dream of Real Madrid, Barcelona, Manchester United, but to get there, you have to work,” he told Telefoot.
The highly-rated defender, who was linked with a move to Manchester United, shortly before his transfer to RB Leipzig last summer, is currently one of the hottest defensive prospects in the Bundesliga.
Since his move to the Bundesliga newcomers at the start of the season, Dayot Upamecano has emerged as a rising star for Ralph Hasenhuttl’s men this season, often being a mainstay in defence alongside club captain Willy Orban,
Highly touted as the next big thing in French football, Upamecano is tipped for a big money move in the coming transfer window, despite Leipzig’s initial wish to keep hold of the player for the long term. And although Die Roten-Bullen have already slapped a huge €100m price tag on the prized defender, it is unlikely to stop him from leaving the club this summer.
Although the defender is yet to represent his country at the senior stage, Upamecano is one of the prospects worth looking forward to.
As for Manchester United, who have definitely been boosted by the player’s ambition of playing at Old Trafford, a move for Dayot Upamecano could make sense in the upcoming summer transfer window.
The Red Devils, despite boasting the second best defence in the league this term, have struggled with inconsistent performances of their defenders this campaign. With the likes of Phil Jones and Chris Smalling almost destined to leave the Old Trafford this summer, a move for Dayot Upamecano might help United solidify their defence for next season and also the future.
Largely known for his sheer physical presence in the defensive half, the RB Leipzig starlet is an all-round defender, who is equally good with the ball at his feet. His passing is top-notch, which is coupled with his superior aerial-prowess, often giving him an edge in the defensive department.
Therefore, the addition of this French youngster might prove to be a boon for Manchester United in the long-term. Not only is the youngster ideal for Jose Mourinho’s defence-oriented gameplay but will also add an extra dimension to their build-up play.
But that being said, it’s highly unlikely that he will leave the club this summer, considering how adamant RB Leipzig are, in keeping hold of their defensive starlet.
