Manchester United Starlet Now Wanted By Manchester City: Does This Move Make Any Sense?

Manchester United may have struggled to keep up with fellow neighbours Manchester City in the race to the League title this season but they have one of the most exciting squads in the country at the moment. However, there are a few stars struggling to get regular first-team action under Jose Mourinho, some of who have been linked with an exit.

One such player, not many United fans will want to lose is English international Marcus Rashford.

City Favourites To land Rashford

The young striker is easily one of the best talents in English football right now and has been integral to Mourinho’s plans at Old Trafford.

However, the lack of regular first-team action has seen Rashford linked with an exit and the likes of Chelsea, Tottenham Hotspur and Arsenal are all interested in his services. Bookmakers Betfair have now placed Guardiola’s side as the join favourites to land Rashford this summer, alongside Chelsea. So, is Rashford a good option for City?

Rashford And His Record

Having made his first senior appearances under Louis van Gaal in 2015, Rashford has till date played 117 games in all competitions for United, picking up 31 goals and 17 assists. He lifted the Europa League title last season and has won every domestic trophy except the league title, in his time at Old Trafford.

He has six goals and five assists in 16 league-starts this season but has lost his place in the first team after United signed Alexis Sanchez and Jesse Lingard found his form.

Since the start of the previous month, he has played the full 90 in a game on just two occasions but at just 20, he will want to play as many games as possible and can easily be lured away this summer. But can City really sign him?

City’s Chances Of Signing Rashford

Born and brought up in Manchester, Rashford will know all about the local rivalry between United and City. There are not too many players that have shifted clubs in recent times and it is hard to see Rashford take that route.

The likes of Chelsea and Arsenal have a better chance, not just because of the rivalry, but also because of his chance in the first team. At City, the likes of Raheem Sterling, Leroy Sane and Bernardo Silva are hogging the roles on the wings while Sergio Aguero and Gabriel Jesus are the option to lead the line.

Rashford is effective in both roles and will be a decent option for Pep if he decides to get rid of Aguero this summer. However, he might want to spend on a more established star, who can have an immediate impact, and Rashford does not completely fit the bill.

At just 20, it is best for 18-capped English international to stay at Old Trafford and continue his progress for another year.
