Two long seasons after lifting the Premier League title, Leicester City are already under the third different manager since the historic league campaign and are currently struggling to find a place in Europe next season.
Claude Puel, the current manager is the third name to take charge of the squad at King Power and reports suggest that the Leicester City hierarchy are now looking to settle down with a well-known name in Rafa Benitez.
Leicester City To Offer Rafa The Job At King Power
The dip in form late this season under Puel has now seen Leicester City Asian owners frustrated. And an exclusive from Starsports now claims that they are looking at Newcastle United manager Rafa Benitez as a possible long-term replacement for Puel.
The report claims that Rafa, who is happy at St James’ may be unsettled with the talks of change in ownership of the club and Leicester reportedly want to take advantage of this situation and want to bring him to King Power. So is it a good move for The Foxes?
Rafa Benitez And His Proud Legacy
Still adored by Liverpool fans, Rafa won the Champions League title with the Reds on that famous night at Istanbul making a name for himself in the European circuit. The Spaniard went on to take charge of clubs like Inter Milan, Chelsea and Real Madrid before he settled down at Newcastle United.
Though he failed to keep them up in the top flight late in the 2015-16 season, he helped the Magpies lift the Championship trophy, bringing them back to the Premier League in the first time of asking. Though he has not been able to break into Europe, Rafa has done well with a limited squad to keep the Magpies in the hunt and will believe that he can better these results with a better set of players.
Leicester City, who broke their transfer record thrice in the last two summer transfer windows, are sure to offer Rafa more of a financial cover than Newcastle United and this could be a huge factor in the Spaniard shifting ship this summer.
Will Rafa Move?
As frustrating as the handling of the club’s finances are, Rafa is a not someone who is not going to quit the club unless he has a big rift with the club’s hierarchy. He has his own issues with the owners but has stayed back and has done pretty well to keep the squad as a unit this season.
There are very few managers who can do that at a struggling club like Newcastle United and they should do all it takes to keep him beyond this summer. However, Leicester have the financial pull and one wrong move from The Magpies’ hierarchy could end Rafa’s stint at Newcastle United.
Leicester will have to work hard to land him but do you think Rafa will be a hit at King Power?
