Tottenham Hotspur are entering a potentially game-changing summer transfer window with the likes of Toby Alderweireld and Danny Rose looking close to an exit. They will have to work hard to retain their top stars this summer but one player they are now reportedly ready to sell is Belgian dazzler Mousa Dembele.
One of the best dribblers in the league, Dembele has been one of the first names on the team sheet for Pochettino, since his move to London. But reports now claim that Spurs are ready to listen to substantial offers for the 30-year old, who still has a lot to offer. Pochettino is already looking at replacements for Dembele but where can the Belgian continue his good work? Here are three English teams that should look to sign Dembele:
Manchester City:
Pep Guardiola loves players who are confident with the ball at their feet. Dembele and his dribbling prowess will certainly attract Guardiola but his vision and passing are what will make him an even more attractive option for the Spaniard. He fits into Pep’s style well and adds numbers to a midfield that has shown some weaknesses this season. City might not extend Yaya Toure’s stay at the club beyond the summer and Dembele could be a superb replacement in the squad. However, he will struggle to start regularly at Etihad.
Liverpool:
The Reds are another club currently desperate for some midfield quality and though Jurgen Klopp does not generally prefer players in their 30s (unless there is an excellent deal in the offing), he should definitely give Dembele a shot. The Belgian is an energetic presence in the midfield and his ability to unlock a defence can go a long way in helping Liverpool finally land the league title. He may not last the 90 minutes day in day out in Klopp’s intense system but he can certainly be a game changer in the biggest of the matches next season. Surely, Dembele is a risk worth taking.
Chelsea:
The Blues also have a midfield crisis of their own. While Cesc Fabregas is no longer a long-term option, Tiemoue Bakayoko and Danny Drinkwater have failed to show any promise this season, potentially pushing the club into the transfer market for yet another midfielder. Dembele fits the bill perfectly. While N’ Golo Kante will continue to do the dirty work, Dembele can not only add stability to that midfield but is a more creative force than any other option Chelsea have for this role. A midfield of Kante and Dembele is a thing of dreams and can help Chelsea win back their lost title.
